Using the Library

Members of the public

Visitors over 18 are welcome to use the print resources in the Library. There is no charge for this service. 

Library staff are available 8.30 to 5 on weekdays to answer questions. The Library is staffed by Security during evenings and weekends and we operate self service during these hours. Details on how to contact us are available here. 

Membership is open to members of the public who live in the local area for an annual fee of £50. This allows you to borrow: 4 standard loan books for 2 weeks with 2 renewals. Licensing restrictions mean that we cannot provide access to online subscription content for external members.

Please complete the membership form below and provide the following when you are next in the Library:

Visitors under 18 are welcome to use the Library if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian, or are on an organised visit with their school.

Bournemouth University staff and students

We have a mutual agreement with Bournemouth University (BU) which allows full time students and staff at BU to join AUB Library. For part time students and staff you can visit the Library and read items in the Library or you can join the SCONUL Access scheme which will allow you to join AUB Library. Please speak to staff in one of the BU libraries if you wish to do this.

Members will then be able to borrow 4 standard loan books for 2 weeks with 2 renewals. Licensing restrictions mean that we cannot provide access to online subscription content for external members.

To join you need to complete the membership form below and provide the following when you are next in the Library:  

  • BU University ID card
  • Proof of local address

Bournemouth & Poole College students

Students studying on the FdA Music and Sound Production course are AUB / B&P College students and have the same borrowing rights as AUB UG students. To join the Library please collect your AUB ID card from the Library between 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday or contact the Library library@aub.ac.uk or find more information about what you can borrow in the AUB library.

Students studying on the BA (Hons) or FdA Performing Arts Degrees (Contemporary Theatre Performance, Musical Theatre or Performing Arts) at Bournemouth and Poole College can join AUB Library without charge. Contact library@aub.ac.uk for more information.

  • BPCAD ID card

School teachers and Charity workers working on arts projects

Membership is open to School teachers in the local area teaching art, design, media or performance. It is also available to Charity Workers doing arts focused work in the same catchment area. Membership is free.

This allows you to borrow: 4 standard loan books for 2 weeks with 2 renewals. Licensing restrictions mean that we cannot provide access to online subscription content for external members.

Please complete a membership form below and provide the following when you are next in the Library:

  • Proof of local address
  • Photo ID

Our collections include material of an adult nature so you may wish to choose a selection of books to work with or ask us to select books in advance. Please e-mail library@aub.ac.uk

Former members of Arts University Bournemouth staff

Membership is open to former full or part time staff members who live in the local area and are not currently working at another University. There is no charge for this. 

Library staff are available 8.30 to 5 on weekdays to answer questions. The Library is staffed by Security during evenings and weekends and we operate self service during these hours. 

Please complete the membership form below and provide the following when you are next in the Library: 

  • Proof of connection to Arts University Bournemouth (formerly BPCAD, AIB and AUCB) e.g. certificate, written confirmation from tutor or equivalent. 
  • Proof of address
  • Photo ID

Membership is reviewed annually on the anniversary of joining. 

Borrowing entitlement: 4 standard loan books for 2 weeks with 2 renewals. Licensing restrictions mean that we can't give access to online subscription content for former staff members.
